There’s a lot of great deals online so we went looking for cheap over ear headphones that were still worth using. What we found is a good mix between quality and a bargain. If you’re looking for a bargain around $20 take a look at these headphones and see what you think.

Our goal here was to find cheap over ear headphones that we still felt comfortable listing on the best over ear headphones site. Now we’ve looked before at things like the best over ear headphones under 100 dollars but we wanted to aim around the $20 mark and see if we could find something worth suggesting. Now, just to be clear, there are a lot of over the ear headphones more worthwhile elsewhere on the site. If you’re looking for the best over ear headphones then these certainly are not the ones to go for.
But if you’re looking for a bargain and you still want good over ear headphones then check these out. If you’re looking for something a little higher priced (and quality) than this you could check out these instead. But the headphones we’ve found for around $20 are the Sony MDR-XD200.
We won’t get into the full technical specs (you can click on the link above if you want to see the full details) but it’s a pretty standard pair of headphones. Sony has a good range of headphones at any price level and I’m pretty surprised these are these cheap. I’m not saying they’d replace my Skullcandy or Sennheiser headphones – but on a budget they’re a solid choice. The padding is fairly thick and the construction seems sturdy enough that they won’t break easily. A lot more comfortable than I would expect from a pair of headphones at this range and I don’t think they have any competition at this level on that front.
The sound quality is decent. It’s not the best, but for cheap over the ear headphones they do the job certainly. They’ll work just fine with your MP3 player or phone for example. They’re a pretty standard design but there’s certainly worse looking headphones. No choice in design but they come in a standard black/silver theme.

I wouldn’t be doing my job reviewing the best over ear headphones if I didn’t point out the reasons to get a better pair however. Not only are you missing out on the sound quality and other features like noise cancelling but the cheaper design of headphones like this have smaller, more basic problems. The sound of the headphones squeaking when you move your head for example. There’s no form of sound dampening at all and the sound quality really doesn’t compare to some of the better quality headphones available out there. Even an alternative pair of Skullcandy headphones like these will get better quality for a pretty cheap price.
That said, these are probably some of the best cheap over ear headphones on a budget. I just want you to understand why better headphones are sometimes the right way to go and doing reviews for the best over ear headphones – I just feel the urge to suggest better quality headphones. But again, for cheap over ear headphones which check the standard boxes and exceed pretty much any other pair of over ear headphones at this level it’s a great choice.
