Best Over Ear Headphones Under 100 Dollars

Everyone wants a good deal but with headphones you need to walk the fine line between a good deal and good quality. This pair is currently rated the best over ear headphones under 100 dollars. They pack a lot of quality for a low price and are quite possibly some of the best over ear headphones around.

Note: Amazon don’t want us to mention exact prices and these Sennheiser headphones are usually higher than $100 but at time of writing they’re on special offer. It might change at any time though so if they change back to over $100 we’ll update with a new pair of headphones. Until then it’s a great deal.

Get Over Ear Headphones

Getting a simple pair of over ear headphones can be as simple as walking down to your local electronics store but I’m assuming you’ve been down that road already.  Who hasn’t bought a cheap pair of over ear headphones and had them break a week later?

Heck I’ve had pairs which haven’t even lasted a week.

But you know what they say about the best over ear headphones – once you’ve tried them you can’t go back to normal  in ear headphones. Now we’re not here to discuss in ear vs over ear headphones – because really there’s no contest on that front.

It’s all personal choice of course but whether you’re an audiophile looking for great sound quality, a fashion nut looking for a great head accessory or you just want to keep your ears warm in winter – over ear headphones have something to offer.

The problem is too many people have seen one of two extremes. They’ve used cheap headphones and been met with poor quality, breakages and (probably) sore ears afterwards. Or they’ve seen some of the really expensive over ear headphones. There’s headphones out there which cost more than my first car.

But even at the moderate range of around $50 there are some of the best over ear headphones which you can easily find online. In fact there are so many to choose from that it can be a bit of a nightmare sometimes. That’s where we come in.

We look at reviews, mainly focusing on some of the best over ear headphones under 100 dollars. Our goal is to help you find a pair of the best over ear headphones to suit your need and help you get a good deal while you’re at it.

Choosing the Best Over Ear Headphones

Now there’s two ways to buy a pair of headphones. You can wing it by choosing the first ones you like the sight of or take a little longer and make sure you’re getting the right ones for you. The first thing we always suggest is think about the kind of headphones you want. There’s no point getting a pair of headphones because they’re the right price or they have plenty of reviews – think about what you want from your pair of over ear headphones.

Consider points like:

  • Sound quality
  • Durability
  • Comfort
  • Features
The sound quality should be pretty self explanatory but it matters more to some people than others. Normally you can expect to pay more for higher quality sound, but you might be surprised with what you can get at the mid range mark. I personally think once you reach a certain level you start to get a lot less for your money and the ‘value mark’ for over ear headphones is between the 50-100 dollar mark.

Durability should be near the top of the list. Look for headphones with a decent brand, warranty and/or reviews of them being used ruggedly for a long time. This is especially important if you’re planning on being tough with your headphones (or you’re clumsy and drop them a lot like I do). You don’t want to waste money on headphones which are going to break so pay attention to this one.

Comfort should be another obvious one. Especially if you plan to wear your headphones frequently, you’re going to want something which doesn’t hurt your head.

Features is a little more vague. Depending on the brand and what you’re looking for this could be anything from wireless capability to sound cancelling or even a bottle opener compartment. Yes, all three of these exist.

Cheap Over Ear Headphones

Now while I dislike the low quality headphones you find in cheap packaging on a corner electronics store – that doesn’t mean you can’t get cheap over ear headphones. Now obviously the the definition of ‘cheap’ is different to different people and you might want to consider taking a look at our cheap over ear headphones section.

But for an example of  discount headphones which are still worth a look try the Sony MDR-XD200. Great quality at a low price (that price is forever changing since deals keep going off and on but it’s usually around the 20-50 mark).

Best Over Ear Headphones Under 100 DollarsBest Over Ear Headphones Under 100 Dollars

One of the more common requests we get is for a pair of the best over ear headphones under 100 dollars. Considering you get some headphones upwards of four figures this is actually a relatively cheap price.

There are actually some great over ear headphones at this price range however and it’s actually a pretty tight choice. In fact a lot of the best over ear headphones list (which you can see on the top right) cost under 100 dollars.

But at the moment I’d have to say the Sennheiser HD448 stands heads and shoulders above the competition. Certainly one of the best over ear headphones around this price range and I mean come on – it’s Sennheiser at this price range. To be fair they’re normally more expensive than this but at the moment they’re under 100.

(Disclaimer: We don’t sell them ourselves so the price might change at any time).

But already there’s choice in front of you, and you probably came here to get help shortlisting right? You’re probably asking

‘But what are the best over the ear headphones?’

Well like we say, there’s not one best pair of over ear headphones. It’s a largely down to personal choice and what you specifically want from your headphones. But we can certainly help up to a point.

There’s a lot of poor quality headphones out there, at least as many if not more than there are decent good quality over ear headphones. And rather than most review sites which review every single make and model which hits the shelves we focus on only the best we find online. So for example we’ll look for the best Skullcandy headphones or the best retractable headphones.

You can find our specific reviews on the homepage or at the top of this page, hopefully it’ll help you find some of the best over ear headphones and narrow your list down. We don’t review any of the useless ones which have better alternatives for around the same price – because what’s the point? Why would you want to pay the same or more for a lower quality pair of headphones?

So once you’ve narrowed down your choice of headphones you can not only look at our review of the over ear headphones in question, but you can also see hundreds of user reviews over on Amazon. They’ve got the best price and delivery time – but they also have thousands of headphone reviews which means you don’t just need to take our word on it that a pair of headphones are worthwhile.

Best Bass Over Ear Headphones

best bass over ear headphones

The Best Bass Over Ear Headphones

The first thing I look for in a pair of headphones is the quality of sound which is why getting the best bass over ear headphones is important, especially if you’re listing to music with a lot of heavy bass involved. It’s a lot easier to get good quality bass in a pair of headphones than it is with a sound system. If you’re trying to do it without breaking the bank at least. There’s a lot of very high quality headphones which can pump out some pretty impressive bass. Just be warned that some of the higher quality headphones do not come cheaply. When looking for the best over ear headphones you do need to keep your price point firmly in mind.

Over ear headphones are a class apart. They are not the usual one you see as part of the standard accessories with the mobile phones. As the name suggests they have large domes that make a perfect fit and cover your ears fully. Because of their size they are little hard to travel with, but some real music buffs don’t mind the size and the inconvenience, for the crystal clear clarity of music emanating from them.

Best Bass Over Ear Headphones Prices

Because they make a snug fit with their smooth form covers over your ears, the music you enjoy through them is free from any disturbance. They will not allow any external sounds to creep in. They are available from a range as little as $25 to a whopping $1300. But when it comes to pure music, people are ready to pay the real worth of it. The best bass over ear headphones around going to sound a heck of a lot better than a cheap pair of in ear headphones you pick out of a rack.

There are two type of over the ear headphones. One is the closed one, while the other is an open –backed one. The closed one, true to its name neither allows the sound to get in or out. A short coming of this model is that some music with some frequencies that tend to resonate more than others and this will result in poor sound fidelity. Open ones on the other hand, allow little external sound to creep in. This, looking from the angle of reducing the resonance, is a good choice when compared to the closed type headphones. Further the air flow will help in keep you in a ‘comfortable’ zone, even for some extended listening of music, as per the expert’s opinion.

The over ear headphones are mainly designed for home use, so they usually comes with a jack(plug) size of 0.25 inches or 6.35 mm, instead of the mini jack of 3.5 mm. But that is not a bother at all as there are adapters available which make it suitable to plug into the mini jack as well. It really depends who you’re buying from though, there’s been a big trend of people using over ear headphones for everyday purposes so some of the best bass over ear headphones come with jacks for your everyday devices like MP3 players and iPhones.

Getting the Best Bass Over Ear Headphones

A word of caution: before you head for buying yourself a pair of over ear headphones. Check the compatibility of your digital player with the one brand you have in mind. Though they are compatible with most of the digital players it is better to be sure. Listen to some music with the one you intend to buy, so that you are sure about the clarity of the music. Most famous brands of headphones are Samsung, Sony, Boss, Philips, Panasonic and Sennheiser. Though there are other brands of best bass over ear headphones, these are renowned names famous for the quality of their products and service.

If you check the headphones we’ve linked above these have some seriously strong bass or if you check some of the best over ear headphones on the top of this page. We’ve got some of the best deals and we keep updated lists of the best over ear headphones available at the best prices on the internet. If you’re looking for the best bass over ear headphones then just get a quality pair of headphones with a strong bass.

Retractable Headphones

Sony retractable headphones

Choosing Retractable Headphones

Do you know what to look out for when choosing the best retractable headphones for your music device? Well, read on to know this and more about retractable headphones.

What are retractable headphones? This are headphones with mechanism to retract the sound transmitting cable to avoid cable tangling and cable knots. By limiting internal cable breakage they add more life to your headphone cables.  Retractable head phones are a common mode of listening to music. They’re becoming more popular these days as more and more of the cheaper over ear headphones break.

Below are vital guidelines on choosing the best retractable headphones. As always, it’s about finding the best headphones which are going to suit your needs. Don’t go for a pair just because everyone is telling you they like it or the salesman is trying to talk you into it. Make sure the headphones are going to suit what you need from them.

Retractable Headphones Features

  • Ear comfort

I believe your ears are precious to you, aren’t they? Its important to keep that way! Therefore when buying retractable headphones consider on their comfort. Choose headphones with cups which have been padded by soft material to make them easy on your ears when pressing against them. It’s also important to consider on their ease of resting on your head. Headphones that wrap round above your head have proved to be easy on resting on the users.

  • Compatibility with electronics

Its important to consider the headphones compatibility to your media devices. This involves considering the male adapter ports. It is equally important to consider if your retractable headphones can be used on other devices like your phone and not only on your music device. This gives you more value for your money as you get more out of them.

  • Noise cancellation

This is feature to look out for and grab whenever buying retractable headphones. This feature helps in keeping away unwanted noise from external factors. Headphones with these feature commonly use batteries to support the technology. They may also be more costly but are worth it. Go for this feature whenever you can afford it if you have to choose between noise and non-noise cancelling retractable headphones.

  • Volume control

Many ignore the volume controller when buying retractable headphones, due to the fact one may be able to control the same from the media device. However, they are very important in raising and lowering music audibility levels and getting more clear sounds. They eliminate the need of always having to reach for your device when in need to adjust your volume. This is because they are easily reachable.

  • In-built microphones

In built mics double up your device and thus getting more value for it. Consider this feature when buying retractable headphones. You would be able to chat with your headphones for example is using them on your phone. It eliminates the need to get to unplug them from your phone for example to answer calls. Its definitely something to consider.

  • Repair

The ease of repair to your earphones shouldn’t be compromised. This can be in the form of replacements like the ear pads. This keeps away the need to buy new headphones every time the ear pads are worn out, since you can simply replace the pads.

Getting Retractable Headphones

Choosing the right headphones is very essential, but using them is also very important. Retractable headphones have mechanisms to stow away the sound cable when not in use. To use them pull out the cable softly out of the retracting machine to desired length. The cable will be held from going back into the retractable machine.

Like any other headphones retractable headphones need care when handling them. Be careful to avoid situations that can lead to falling of your headphones. This may end up damaging them internally which can be difficult to repair or breakages.

Avoid using your headphone out when you see a possibility of rain. As any other electronic devices they don’t go down well with water. Treat your retractable headphones and they will in turn serve you for a long time. Personally I don’t use retractable headphones because they seem to love getting my hair or clothing trapped in them when I’m not looking. I also don’t mind having a big pair of headphones around my neck but each to their own. I don’t think they’ll be on the best over ear headphones lists any time soon but they certainly have advantages and Sony offers a great pair of retractable headphones (pictured above) which are some of the best and incredibly cheap.

Good Over Ear Headphones

good over ear headphones

Good Over Ear Headphones

Over ear headphones are small speakers used very close to the ear so that somebody can listen to music of his own choice, communicate in a voice/video call or whatever in private without disturbing others. Different types of headphones are available such as small ‘earbuds’ or ‘clipped’ or ‘behind neck’ ones, bigger ‘ear pads’ or ‘over ear’ ones with cushions to cover the ears, ‘noise cancelling’, ‘bluetooth’ or ‘Dolby digital’ ones with special high definitions.

Choosing Good Over Ear Headphones

While buying a pair of good over ear headphones comfortability is a very important thing to consider. For instance, small and lightweight headphones such as earbuds can provide less interference with earings, glasses, hairstyles, hats etc and therefore better comfort whereas larger headphones like the ‘over the ear’ or ‘earpad’ ones can be too heavy for the ears to hold; sometimes ears might turn red or swet for some people. On the other hand, these heavier headphones can provide better isolation and better bass and loudness which is another important feature of the heaphones.

For people who want to hear music while jogging, running or playing outdoor games, ‘Behind the neck’ headphones might be pretty convenient for them. These have headbands that go around the back of the neck which, in fact, make room for something else at the top of the head. There are also wireless headphones which work via infra-red using radio frequency which might be even more hassle-free for some people. There is even another type of wireless headphones that produce a virtual surrounding sound from a Dolby Digital source creating the atmosphere of home theatre. Moreover, there are other types of headphones called ‘noise cancelling’ ones which can prevent us from hearing outside noise by specialized design and technology. And these can obviously be very useful for travellers, specially in trains and airlines.

Headphones are available at various prices ranging from very ordinary at a few dollars to very high definition ones at around $2,000. People’s budget over headphones vary. But truly speaking, good quality audio won’t be found until $40-$50 is spent. Consequently, some affordable headphones which provide good over ear headphones are Sennheiser PMX 680 Sport ($60.00), Shure SE215 ($99.00), the iBeats($120.00) by Dr. Dre from Monster , the Bose IE2 ($100.00). However, if somebody likes more clearness than booming bass, then Etymotic ER-4S ($300) can be used for a flat sound with clear treble. Besides ‘noise cancelling headlphones’ like Bose’s QuietComfort 15 ($299.00), Sennheiser’s PXC 450 (around $350.00) can provide better isolation but might be little expensive in comparison with other headphones of same quality. Again, wireless headphones are not regarded as the best ones for sound quality as radio frequency and the distance from the sound source can worsen the sound. Nevertheless, bluetooth headphones like Sennheiser’s MM 450 Travel Bluetooth headphone (around $450.00) offer fantastic noise cancellation, sound pretty good though little expensive. In fact, there are even more expensive headphones such as Audeze LCD ($1,945.00) which provide superior sound quality.

Getting Good Over Ear Headphones

People’s choice vary. So some may not want to spend more on mere headphones. But for those who spend a substantial amount of their time listening music should buy a headphone with good quality and price affordable to them to have a good time to pass. I can’t not listen to music while I’m working or just walking along the street so a good pair of over ear headphones is important to me. It’s not hard to find good over ear headphones when you have a wide a choice as you get online, take a look at the best over ear headphones list on the top of the page for example.

Best Sports Earphones

best sports earphones

The Best Sports Earphones

Fairly often we get asked about the best headphones for something specific and it’s usually a sport. We all enjoy our sports and I’m sure you’ve used headphones or earphones in the past for running or whatever sport you take part in. But you’ve seen the problem with a rubbish quality pair right?

Best Sports Earphones Features

Normally we review the best over ear headphones but when it comes to sport earphones… that doesn’t really apply. You can certainly try to use over ear headphones for sports but if it’s a vigorous sport you might well have comfort issues. So instead we’re going to look at some in ear headphones and earphones.

If you don’t want to read or ‘how to find the best sports earphones’ guide then you can always hit the Amazon button (above or below) to go straight over and see our #1 suggested sports earphones. Best price, best quality and loads of great reviews.

But what should you actually be looking for in the best sports earphones? Well there’s a few things I tend to go for.

the best sports earphonesYou want something that’s going to last, so decent quality is the way to go. Something water resistance doesn’t hurt either (considering rain and/or sweat). You can get ‘shock proof’ earphones but this is rarely much of an issue in our experience. A smaller part people rarely consider here is the quality of the cable which attaches to your phone or MP3 player. If your headphones stay in one piece that’s great, but if they have a cheap wire which breaks or becomes loose then it doesn’t do you any good.

You can use Bluetooth earphones if your music player supports it. This means you have no wire at all to worry about (although that usually comes with a higher price tag and battery issues) or just look for something with a reinforced cable or something similar. The point where it connects with the headphones itself is generally the most important part where damage frequently occurs with poor quality earphones.

Comfort. This is a big deal. Normally I turn down a lot of headphones for our best headphones list if there’s problems with comfort because I think it’s a pretty big deal. Well with sports, I know I’m right. If your headphones are not comfortable they’ll drive you mad and you’ll end up not using them (making them a waste of money).

If you think a pair of uncomfortable headphones were enough of an annoyance then try them while running for example and see how you find it there. It’s not a good idea. So instead we look for earbuds or around neck in ear headphones. These generally do a better job of staying in one place and not falling out of your ears or becoming painful. You want something tight fighting that isn’t going to bounce around and you want it made of (or coated in) something which isn’t going to irritate the back of your neck.

Next up you need something present in any good  earphones. Good sound quality. No matter if you want something running earphones or the best headphones for your iPod this is a pretty high standard. You need something which sounds good and loud enough, in this case, so you’ll be able to hear your music clearly while running for example.

After that there’s a few additional things you can get which we consider ‘icing on the cake’ for sports earphones. Things like a good design or a guarantee from the manufacturer.  Some earphones come with a carrying case, multiple ear tip replacements or interchangeable caps so you can change the color for example. But one of the best sports earphones features we’ve found is a small feature which just makes things so much easier. The ability to change volume from the wire rather than having to reach into your pocket every time – it’s a surprisingly big bonus.

Get the Best Sports Earphones

So armed with knowledge you can go into your local store or shop around online. Our usual rules stand of course – it’s worth spending an extra few bucks to get a proper quality pair rather than constantly replacing them. And in ear sports earphones are a lot cheaper than over ear headphones, it’s a few bucks for something that could last you years.

Now the #1 best sports earphone we’d suggest is the Sennheriser PMX 680. You might notice this review is only marked at 3 stars, but that’s because generally we look at over ear headphones so we couldn’t consider it quite on par with that. But if you’re looking for a great pair of sports earphones these win hands down. They’re usually pretty expensive but when I last checked they were on a great deal (with hundreds of great reviews) and they have everything we’d look for in the best sports earphones.

Best Over Ear Noise Cancelling Headphones

The Best Over Ear Noise Cancelling Headphones

In the past if you wanted to hear your music properly through your headphones you’d just keep cranking the volume until you couldn’t hear anything but luckily things a little better now and you can use noise cancelling headphones will preserve your hearing and sound quality by blocking the noise from outside allowing you to hear your music better without needing the volume up. So how do you find the best over ear noise cancelling headphones?

Well there’s a few things to consider but hopefully we’ll help you find the best over ear headphones for you.

First of all technically the best over ear noise cancelling headphones are the four figure DJ headphones. I mean these guys can hear from those things even when in the middle of a club night, and it’s not because they have super hearing. But rather than compare a three thousand dollar pair of headphones we thought we’d look at something a little more reasonable for non DJ’s who just want the best over ear noise cancelling headphones.

Basically you want to look for a pair of headphones which still have the basic benefits of a good quality pair of headphones (sound quality, comfort and style) and you want to see what kind of noise canceling you can get with that. You also want to look for ‘active’ noise canceling which means it has a proper system rather than a little extra padding around the ear piece. An extra bonus is if you can toggle the noise cancellation system between on and off in case you’re on a busy road or something for example.

It should be mentioned that for the most part noise cancelling headphones require a battery to function properly and it’s bets to use a rechargeable one so you’re not constantly replacing them.

Best Over Ear Noise Cancelling Headphones Online

So, just before we suggest a few of the best sound cancelling headphones we’d suggest you actually get them online. Shopping for headphones online not only gives you much more choice and a lower price, but it also means you don’t have a salesman twisting your ear to a more expensive pair and they get delivered right to your door.

Over Ear Headphone ReviewsOur headphone rating system tries to give each pair a fair rating. There’s some things you just can’t compare though. For example, if one person is looking for the best over ear headphones under 100 dollars and someone else wants the best quality or the best sound cancelling system how can we really compare the two? Obviously different pairs of headphones are going to suit the two people differently.

So what we try and do is look at as many headphones as possible so we have something for everyone. If that doesn’t work for you then take a look at the full information on the headphones themselves and get an idea of the kind of thing you want before picking. The main thing we suggest is don’t blindly pick the first pair you see based on their great deal or whatever feature it is you’re looking at. Take a look at a few different pairs which offer the same thing.

We try to keep up to date with the latest headphones we find but there will be times when new over ear earphones arrive and we just haven’t had a chance to test them yet. We keep updating but rather than trying to review every individual pair of headphones (which would take forever and be less than useful) we try and look for the best over ear headphones which suit different people for different situations. So rather than do sennheiser headphone reviews for their latest model, we find the best over ear wireless headphones and do wireless headphone reviews suggesting some of the better headphones.

This gives you a much better idea of what’s worthwhile and we think it’s the best way of doing over ear headphone reviews because it helps you get something properly suited to you – not just reviewing whatever is brand new on the market.

Newest Over Ear Headphone Reviews

You’ll find our most recent headphone reviews near the top of the homepage. If you’re looking for the best deals we’ve found lately that’s the place to look. You’ll also find some of our overall top rated over ear headphones on the top right of every page and they’re always worth taking a look at. We try to give at least a basic review of each headphone  but for the full information you should check it out on Amazon (that’s also where you get the best deals) and each review has a link to the headphones over there.

Hopefully our over ear headphone reviews help you find the right pair for you and if not visit our contact page and let us know what you’re looking for!

Best Over Ear Headphones Under 50

The Best Over Ear Headphones Under 50

The Best Over Ear Headphones Under 50

Over ear headphones come in many shapes, sizes and designs as we often tell people trying to find the best over ear headphones but they also vary greatly in price. While some of them cost upwards of four figures some are a lot cheaper and we have some of the best over ear headphones under 50 dollars here, obviously these are not world class DJ grade over ear headphones but that doesn’t mean you won’t be surprised at the quality you can get. There are plenty of great quality over ear headphones at this price range.

Keep in mind we’re not talking about cheap quality headphones for $5 out of your local newsagents. We don’t count them as headphones in any sense of the word. No, we’re talking about high quality earphones like the Sennheiser HD 202 or there’s a great pair of Audio-Technica… actually there’s a whole bunch of really good looking over ear headphones under 500 bucks.

Best Over Ear Headphones Under 50 Reviews

It’s kind of hard to review the best over ear headphones under 50 if I’m comparing it to a four figure DJ headphones. So rather than use our standard comparison of 5 stars (which wouldn’t really match up) we’re just going to suggest some of the best over ear headphones under 50. Now don’t be put off – there are some great headphones here but it’s just not fair to compare them to more expensive headphones because it’d be hard to really tell what is better than what.

OK so rather than just waffling on about why we’re not doing a normal review – lets just get to the good part.

Get the Best Over Ear Headphones Under 50

With any of the best over ear headphones we suggest going to Amazon for them. Yay for cheap deals, fast postage and plenty of selection. And more than that, they actually show you user reviews which means even after us telling you how awesome these headphones are you can actually see what other people think about them. Now while there’s a load of great sides to getting things online there’s one problem – prices can change pretty quickly.

Now the headphones we’ve found and we’re certainly calling the best over ear headphones under 50 are actually right down from their normal listing of $150 and that could change back at pretty much any point. They’re great quality, really comfortable and I doubt you’ll find anything better for the price. Now, the only problem is that you’re pretty limited with style – they have black, black and basic black. Now if that’s not your cup of tea hit the big yellow button anyway and they have a bunch of other over ear headphones around that price with a lot of different styles and designs.

If you’re OK with basic black (and I know a lot of people are) then this is the way to go – some great quality at a low price and you won’t see a deal like this often. If the deals already expired (I’ll try and change this if I see the deal change) have a look at some of our top rated best over ear headphones on the top right of this page. There’s a lot of choice to pick between but it’s better to get a good pair like this which are actually going to last long, give quality and just generally not suck.

There are so many cheap headphones brands out there and I don’t like seeing people waste their money on rubbish so hopefully this will help you find the best over ear headphones under 50 dollars.

Best Over Ear Headphones Design

Best Over Ear Headphones Design

We’ve had a few questions regarding things like the best over ear headphones design and style but we haven’t really been able to help too much on that front. Over ear headphones come in all sorts of different styles and designs and everyone has their own preference and what works for one person might not work for another.

There are some really great looking designs out there but there’s not a best design because it’s subjective. The one thing I do tell people is look through our reviews on the best over ear headphones and make your mind up from there. Many of the models and brands actually have different styles and versions of each so you can find one you like the stats and price of, then pick out a good design for it.

Design the Best Over Ear Headphones

Right, I guess this needs touched on.

There *are* services out there which allow you to design your own headphones. Yes, they exist. And while this sounds great in theory (who wouldn’t like to design their own headphones) it just doesn’t work in practice I’m afraid. At least – not yet. I’m yet to find a self design service which compares anywhere near other brands in terms of quality or price.

To use these services you pay a good deal more and you get a lower quality sound at the end of it. Maybe there will be a good one in the future but for the moment it just doesn’t exist.

That’s not to say you can’t design your own headphones if you really want to put the time in to it. I’ve seen people dye the ear pieces and spray paint the plastic. If you don’t want to go that far you can pick up some stickers or a fine brush and a pot of plastic paint if you have any artistic talent.

Or you can make things easier and just take the time to find something you like in the first place. There’s a whole bunch of different versions of the over ear headphones we review so you’d be hard pressed to find something you don’t actually like in that lot. Some designs might only come in different colors but others are completely different.

People like different things of course, but for good design on over the ear headphones look for monster ear phones or maybe Skull Candy. There are others (of course) but it seems that they’re the most popular for good looking headphones that still have great quality to them. The only problem I’ve found with SkullCandy is the seem to break easily, but then again I’ve broken headphones from various brands so I might just be the weak link there.

Judging the Best Over Ear Headphones

So if you’re judging the best over ear headphones by their look or design you’re doing it wrong I’m afraid. It’s important to get a pair you like the look of, because it’s one of the first things people will notice about you when you’re walking along the street. But the good quality headphones nearly always come in various designs so find a good one first and then (and only then) worry about finding the right design. That’s how you get the best over ear headphones design that actually have some quality to them.

Best Over Ear Headphones for iPod

The Best Over Ear Headphones for iPod

So you’re looking for the best over ear headphones for iPad? Well you’re not the only one the hunt for the best iPod headphones is strewn with dangers… like cheap tacky headphones destined to stop working in at least one ear, provide poor quality sound or just downright break. The Apple iPod is increadibly popular (and rightly so) and if you want to get the most from it you’re going to want a good pair of headphones. Getting the best over ear headphones is fairly easy though. As easy as 1, 2, 3.

  1. Look through reviews
  2. Find the ones you like and pick a good design for them
  3. Order them online
Simple, right?

Choosing the Best Over Ear Headphones for iP0d

Ok, so you know you want them for your iPod and you know you want a pair of over ear headphones. Good start. But you want to narrow that down a bit. Do you want to just get a cheap pair or get whatever is on a good deal at the moment? Do you want to focus on sound quality and maybe fork out a little more to get a better sound? Do you just want something that looks good and lets you listen to music?the best over ear headphones for ipod

Don’t worry about it too much, you don’t really need to sacrifice anything to get what you want but it helps if you know what you’re looking for before you start. It just helps you get the right thing and it’s a lot easier to look through the reviews if you can sort them into priority of what you’re looking for in a pair of headphones. Remember everyone’s a little different so the best over ear headphones for iPod for one person might not the be the same for someone else.

The original iPod earbuds… well let’s just say they’re not in the top rated ear buds list. Their quality if considered pretty poor but everyone has a pair because they came with the iPad/iPhone and they’re pretty distinctive. Apple don’t make over ear headphones and even if they did I might well be a little hesitant to suggest them. Apple products might look good, but there are a lot of other headphone companies which make a better quality product with a better look, at a lower price point than Apple do. It’s a no brainer, go with someone decent.

There’s also very little difference between the best headphones for iPods and for… well anything else. Unless perhaps some of the DJ headphones out there because they can be a little bulky and have longer wires. So if you look at our top list at the top right of this site or the reviews on our homepage, you’ll see some of the best over ear headphones around which will be the best for your iPod or anything you plug them in to.

Getting the Best Over Ear Headphones for iPod

Ok, ok so you’re convinced. You want to look through the reviews we have above and pick the right headphones for you. Don’t judge the headphones (or the review) on the picture. A lot of models are available in different colors/styles so you should look through for what you want and then see what options they have. There’s about half a dozen or so on our suggested best over ear head phones list which are worth taking a look at and there should be a little something for everyone there.

Hopefully our reviews (and we try and find really good prices online) will help you get the best over ear headphones for iPod.

In Ear Headphones Review

in ear headphones

Best In Ear Headphones Review

We thought we’d mix it up a bit from our usual best over ear headphones hunt and do an in ear headphones review In ear headphones are not for everyone. I found this out when I was searching for the best pair of headphones that fulfils my needs. Headphones are a necessity for me. I am not the type to blare my music for all and sundry to hear. I love that privacy and the personal use that headphones bring to the table. When I first started to use them , they were bulky, the wires would get crossed and they were pretty fragile. They got destroyed pretty fast. The sound quality also wasn’t that good and it was rare to obtain an affordable pair of headphones that performed admirably. A lot have changed since then, in many cases my in ear headphones provide superior sound to any speaker set-up.

Using In Ear Headphones Review to Choose

in ear headphonesSo even with our in ear headphones review, how do you choose a pair? When I first started to shop for a pair of headphones I kept away from the in ear head phones and the over the ear types. In my past opinion, I was uncomfortable with placing a small pair of speakers into my ears. I also just thought that the over the ear ones were too bulky and it looked too obvious in public. I can be paranoid that way. So I leant towards the traditional ear buds. However, through some external factors; I was forced to wear the in ear headphones, I realised that they provided a richer sound with amazing bass and great treble- the base rocked my world!

As I said before, in ear headphones are not for everyone. I had to get used to wearing the thing but it was worth it . I enjoy the way this type reduces outside noise, how it’s small and manageable and very personal. Just a tip, the in ear headphones can attract dirt so keep it clean. This must be maintained more than the ear buds and the over the ear headphones. It’s also not advisable to share it too.In ear headphones are much more personal than the other types and bodily stuff like earwax can pass from person to person. Yeah, gross.

I also made sure the wires were long enough. I am a tall person so I figured I would look outright awkward bending my head whenever I had to listen to music from my phone in my pocket. I hate to walk around with my music device in my hand. Pick a type that is durable according to your lifestyle. I picked one that had flat wires that were also thick to prevent fraying. It annoys me when wires fray from headphones, I had nightmares using masking tape to hold some wires from a pair of headphones together! Try to imagine yourself jogging with your headphones first. The constant moving, the sweat, the light rain, the sun, imagine how your prospective headphones must cope if you are living an active life.

I am satisfied with the pair of headphones I chose and my needs may be different from others. I know also that headphone buds and over the ear headphones can be just as comfortable, performance oriented or practical as the in ear headphones but that is just my preference for the moment.By the way, the brand of in ear headphones I chose was the Klipsch IMAGE S4.

In Ear Headphones Review – Best Price and Where to Get

So once you’ve chosen your in ear headphones (and honestly we suggest these ones because they’re amazing quality for such a small price) where do you go? Well the only place I know that doesn’t overcharge for headphones and these Klipsch ones especially since they’re so low – is Amazon. Fastest delivery, superb customer service and their prices are the lowest of anywhere I’ve seen to get headphones. And the best part is each of their models has their own best in ear headphones review from hundreds, if not thousands, of real users.

Best Over the Ear Headphone

The Best Over The Ear Headphone

So if you haven’t gathered by now, you’re looking at a review site for over ear headphones and you’re probably looking for the best over the ear headphone. And with so much to choose from it can be a little overwhelming. I mean they’re hundreds of over ear headphones out there, and we’ve even reviewed more than a couple here. So making sure you get the best over the ear headphone would probably be easier if you know how we judge the headphones right?

Basically we use a five star point system for all of our reviews (you’ll have seen them already). We cover everything we look for in a pair of headphones, but if you don’t agree with us and think one pair is better than another for whatever reason then, of course, you’re free to go with the ones you think are better. We compare headphones against each other for their overall quality but anything in our top list is likely to be high quality and there’s a little something for everyone in there.

Finding The Best Over The Ear Headphone

So what do we look for in the best over the ear headphone? Well we have six main factors we look at in a review.

  • Sound quality
  • Comfort
  • Style
  • Price
  • Misc
  • Other reviews
Sound quality and comfort are the obvious choices most people will look at. If you want the best over ear headphones, you’re probably expecting something a little better than noise in the ear. Usually headphone brands give a good indicator of this kind of thing. Comfort of course is important if you want to wear your headphones for a long period of time, I’m sure I’m not the only one who has had sore ears from wearing poor quality headphones in the past.
Style is third on our list, and while it might be more important to some than others we think it’s an important part of getting the best headphones. I mean why get something that looks tacky when there are some great looking designs out there? Generally brands like Sennheiser are going to look a little more plain than some of the headsets out there but it’s always worth looking at.
The price point of headphones can vary largely from a few bucks up to a couple of hundred (usually for DJ headphones). Most of ours range from around 50 – 150 because unless you’re a professional DJ you probably don’t need anything better than that and this range has great value for a money and a lot of choice.
The last two things we do a little differently to most review sites, but that’s why we’re the best at finding the best over the ear headphone. We look at miscellaneous features (my current pair of Skull Candy headphones has a bottle opener enclosed inside, and I think that kind of thing is worth noting). Some headphones are a better fit for some people, my filling a niche role, for example the best earphones for running might not be the same as the best noise cancelling headphones but they might suit runners and therefore be the best over ear headphones for them. We also use external reviews. Rather than just tell you what we think of a pair of headphones we  look at what other people say, because we think having a few hundred opinions is better than just the one.

All of our own reviews include reviews from other people and we point you towards others which you can use to decide whether the pair you’re looking at is the best over the ear headphone for you.

Best Over Ear Headphone

The Best Over Ear Headphone

Now since we’re a review site for the best over ear headphones you might find it a little strange that we don’t have one single pair of headphones or earbuds we’re calling the best over ear headphone? Sure we have a bunch of we’d say are great headphones or even the best headphones, but there’s not actually one we can point to and call the best over ear headphone and honestly mean it.

Is There One Best Over Ear Headphone?

not the best over ear headphoneYou see, unlike a lot of review sites we’re not going to find someone to pay for a little advertising and say ‘oh wow we just found the best over ear headphone set ever!’ and tell you that whatever headphone brands pay us the most are great. Instead, we’re going to give unbiased reviews of the various headphones and to be perfectly honest I don’t even think there is one best over ear headphone.

I mean think it through, and I know I’ve said this before but I want to make sure people understand why we have multiple headphone reviews, different people want different things. Whether you want sound quality, a good deal, durability or a great stylish look people do want different things from their earphones. Some people want noise canceling head phones while others won’t etc…

I mean I’m pretty partial to Bluetooth headphones since somehow I always manage to trip over wires. So the best over ear headphones to suit me would have to include that feature, but I know some people hate that kind of thing. So you see my reasoning here?

People might even change their mind half way through and decide they don’t want the best over ear head phones any more, they like the sound of in ear headphones better, so we also throw in some of the top rated earbuds.

There’s Not One Best Over Ear Headphone

Zip. Nada. Nil. I hope you came here looking for the best over ear headphones and not the one best over ear headphone but either way you’re here now and we can steer you right.

There’s certainly a lot of bad quality headphones around. I mean look at all the cheap nonsense out there (that some people still have the urge to charge pretty highly for). But by the same standard, there’s probably not the one worst headphones pair either.

We review a bunch of headphone brands and models like the Sennheiser hd497 to the SkullCandy headphones with the bottle opener pouch on the side. By looking at a wider range we can get some over ear headphone reviews which actually show you the best deals, best quality and you get headphones which are made for more than just some ear noise. For good quality sound, great style and a good deal (I mean who really wants to pay more than they have to) we can hopefully help you get the best headphones which suit YOU – and that’s how we find the best over head phone.

Best Over Ear Headphones

The Best Over Ear Headphones

Whether you’re an audiophile or you just want something which looks good – it’s important to make sure you’re getting the best over ear headphones which suit you. I mean, there’s a lot of choice out there with every company and their mothers trying to shove their headphones brands in your face.

So here you’ll find our impartial reviews on the best over ear headphone options and a few in ear headphone reviews here and there for good measure (because variety is the spice of life as they say). All our reviews are impartial and you’re free to take or leave them. We’re not sponsored by any of the headphone brands so we don’t try and tell you that one is better than the other. We review the different over ear headphones and share our thoughts.the best over ear headphones

Best Over Ear Headphones For You

It might seem strange that we’d call our site the best over ear headphones reviews if we don’t actually think there is one pair of headphones that exists – but that’s the deal. There really is not one pair of headphones which anyone can honestly say is the #1 big kahunna because different people want different things from their headphones so what matches the top spot for us, might be different for you.

For example, Dave might really want the best over ear headphones for sound quality and Jessica might want a pair which looks good when she’s wearing them. Now you might well get a pair that fills both roles, but if Jessica doesn’t want to pay an extra $100 for great quality when she’s happy with something half that then the best over ear headphones are not the same for them.

See where we’re going with this?

So we review a range of headphones and try to find the best for everyone. We might have one sitting in second or third, heck maybe even lower, but if they match what YOU want from YOUR headphones then that makes them the best over ear headphones. Obviously, I wouldn’t suggest getting them if our review says they break apart after a week and attempt to brain wash you while you wear them, but you get the point.

We’ll try to keep our head phone review as up to date as possible. If we are missing something you’d like to see then get in touch with us through the contact page and let us know. We’ll do our best to find the best over ear headphones and you’ll always find our top rated ones near the top of the page. Our overall top rated over ear headphone reviews are based on the one which are great value for money, have the best features and are likely to suit everyone.

Getting The best Over Ear Headphones

The internet is a great place to get reviews, and finding the best headphones of course, but it’s also a great place to actually get your headphones once you’ve decided which are the best for you. It’s always worth checking in your local store because sometimes they have some good headphones brands on offer but usually it’s cheaper, easier and a wider choice if you go online.

We suggest Amazon for their low price, quick delivery and, well lets face it they’re a household name these days. Who doesn’t know Amazon?

So you’ll find our wireless earphones, our over the ear headphone reviews and generally everything you need to find in ear headphones and the best over ear headphones available, I hope you find the right one for you.

Noise Cancelling Headphones

About Noise Cancelling Headphones

Noise cancelling headphones are headphones that are powered by batteries used get rid of unwanted or ambient noise in the surrounding of a listener. To put simply how they work, noise cancelling headphones have minute inbuilt microphones which listen and record in real time unwanted noise or sounds in the environment of a listener. The recorded frequencies in the noise are then inverted and played into the users ears. The inverted signal then cancels out all ambient noise entering the ears thus eliminates it. In essence the noise cancellation headphones use noise also referred to as “antinoise” to get rid of ambient unwanted noise. This method of reducing unwanted noise is referred to technically as active noise control (ANC).

noise cancelling headphonesNoise canceling headphones are typically used in loud environments, the widest use being in planes. Other places of common use include trains, Tube systems as well as in loud offices or work environments with steady background noise like that of air conditioning systems. The reason they work so marvelously is that unlike sound isolation headphones, noise cancelling headphones eliminate deep and continuous noises or hums like that of a jet engine while sound isolation headphones would merely block noise such as people talking.

Using Noise Cancelling Headphones

Noise cancelling headphones have been in use from the 1950s where they were developed mainly for helicopter and plane pilots to help reduce the noise in cockpits. Nowadays however they are commonly available for use for anyone who can purchase them. These headphones are available both as ear-buds for use inside ears and as full size headphones. The better quality ones are usually some of the better over ear headphones but there are some smaller in ear versions that work quite well also. It’s really a matter of choice but for the best noise cancelling you do need to be looking at over ear headphones.

Some of the main merits of noise cancelling headphones are the obvious allowing a person to experience what they are listening to, be it music, watching a film or an audio book or presentation without interference from unwanted noise. Tied to this is noise cancelling headphones are friendly to the ears in the sense of reduction of fatigue to the ears. This is because the volume doesn’t have to be excessively high to counter background noise thus listening is done on lower levels. Noise cancellation can also aid in helping someone sleep in a noisy plane, vehicle or train.

Some main demerits are they are battery powered meaning replacement batteries might be needed in case they run out of power. Without power noise cancelling headphones are rendered useless. Some brands allow a USB port for recharging while some expensive headphones are manufactured in a way that allows usage as normal headphones in case power runs out. Given that the battery compartment is most of the time in built to the headphones, they tend to be bulky unless one opts for the ear-bud versions. The weight of noise cancelling headphones makes them unsuitable for outdoor use and tends to restrict them to travel listening not general day to day use.

Getting Noise Cancelling Headphones

Some of the best reviewed and prominent brands of noise cancelling headphones include Shure SE530 earphones, TMA-1 headphones manufactured by Aiaiai, Klipsch Image S4 and QuietComfort 3s developed by Bose. Prices for noise cancelling headphones range from $40 and can go as high as $500. When shopping for noise cancelling headphones, one needs to consider the design in terms of the size and portability. Full sized headphones are larger and cannot be carried in a pocket while ear-bud headphones will fit the pocket as such how one is traveling needs to be considered when choosing the design. The duration of use is also an important consideration so that a suitable powering means is selected. When selecting noise cancelling headphones for extended periods of use, a lithium-ion rechargeable battery is advised.

You can find some of the best noise cancelling headphones like this cheaper online than you will on a high street store for example. Actually that’s pretty much the way to get most electronics these days and not just headphones. But if you’re looking for a deal then have a look at these from Audio Technica. It’s a great value pair of noise cancelling headphones and probably one of the best online.
